Have you ever wondered what our consultants are like when we don’t have our recruiter’s hat on? Our series turns our recruitment consultants into interviewees!

In this post, we're delighted to introduce you to Jennifer Donnelly.

Tell us a little bit about you what you do.

I'm Jennifer, informally and preferably, "Jen". I focus primarily on Private Practice recruitment for our International Law Firm clients in Hong Kong.  I also work with some long term in-house/MNC clients in the Commerce and Insurance sectors.

How did you get into recruitment? Did you always want to be a recruiter?

I first started in recruitment in Australia in about 2002, where I was then focused on the Professional Services and Hospitality sectors. It wasn't something I "always wanted to do", though I was headhunted by a regional recruitment firm when looking for work myself! When I came to Hong Kong in 2002, I was introduced to the Managing Director of a boutique legal recruitment firm through some contacts and friends working in the legal sector. I've had the opportunity to work with a diverse mix of fantastic colleagues throughout my 15 years in Hong Kong and haven't looked back!

What are the top 3 things you love about what you do?

I really love the variety of people I meet on any given day.  Although ups and downs are never fun, it's invigorating.  Figuring out what makes people tick!

What’s the biggest challenge as a recruiter?

How would your colleagues describe you?

I'd guess they'd probably say I'm a little bit OCD, but cheerful and young at heart.

What do you like to do to unwind outside of the office?

I really enjoy cooking. I also enjoy wine tasting, great food and travel.

Random fact about yourself:

I once answered fan mail for Michael Crichton – Creator of the TV series, ER, and Author of Jurassic Park and many, many others.

Your favourite…

Restaurant (& item on the menu)

pane e vino in Todi, Unbria Italy – the truffle pasta with wild boar

Don't Stop Me Now by Queen

Holiday destination

Umbria, Italy

I'm not really much of a sweets person, but I do love a good lemon gelato!

Biggest pet peeve?

Poor grammar.

Three items on your bucket list:

  • Although I've been to Paris, I've not yet been up the Eiffel Tower
  • A month touring and wine tasting in the Margaret River
  • The Peak Tram.  I know, sad.  I've been in Hong Kong 15 years! Just haven't done it.

If you were not a recruiter, what would you doing?

If I weren't working as a recruiter, I'd be a chef and travel writer.
