Are you at the time in your life or career when you are actively trying to progress to your next level? Perhaps you are hoping to secure a role with the firm of your dreams or to meet and marry the love of your life but nothing you do seems to be working.

You are not alone. I see this all the time with clients who were subconsciously fixated on what they had in the past. Unfortunately, doing so limited their leaps forward, despite their strongest desire and efforts to do so.

Did you know your mindset could actually be causing you to unintentionally block the exact things you're looking for? However, a simple shift in your thinking could change everything.

Instead of remaining attached to the past, you must fully embrace your present. In fact, you have to be present-centered now to attract what you want in your life now. Why?

Because you cannot attract what is in the past or in the future.

You can only attract what is in the present.

To attract what you really want, you must fully embrace your present and immediately stop doing the following:

1. LIVING IN THE PAST

For example, you may be longing for 'the good old days' when you worked for a firm where your professional growth and development mattered to leadership and you were effectively mentored and guided. Perhaps the firm no longer exists due to a merger or retirement of the firm partners. Or...

You may, deep down inside, secretly hope you and your ex will one day get back together.

Refusing to 'move on' is not attractive. Get rid of old attachments that are not serving you but instead holding you back from where you want to be.

2. WORRYING ABOUT THE FUTURE

Worry is the fear of something that has not happened. Some people actually agonize about events that have not yet occurred. Do you?

Unfortunately, worrying consumes a lot of energy and robs you of joy.

Worry takes you out of the present (where attraction happens) into the future, which has not happened yet. Worry always begins with the circular, unanswerable question “what if” which then leads to another worry and then another worry and yet another worry.

The time and energy spent worrying means other things you could and should be doing to move your life forward will not get accomplished.

You will not attract what could be next for you if you are mentally and emotionally stuck in the past or worrying about the future.

3. DEFERRING HAPPINESS

Happiness deferred reveals an underlying belief that what you really want is conditional, hinging upon something or someone else. Even worse, that event occurs at some undefined time in the future. So happiness now, in the present, is negotiated and ultimately postponed. (Stop Negotiating Your Happiness.)

Happiness is a choice. Your happiness is your choice. You can choose to be happy no matter what circumstances you are facing. There is always something to be happy about - a beautiful sunrise or sunset, the fact that you can read and get to have another day of life.

If you want to create your next level breakthrough, the first thing you must do is ensure you are fully living in the present. The past is over and behind you. The future doesn't exist yet.

Happily, choose to make the best of who you are right now. Start today.
