Star Anise Group x Hong Kong Legal Walk: Charitable Walk 2022
Team members stretch their muscles for Hong Kong's inaugural Legal Walk — Autumn 2022

Employees of Hong Kong-based legal talent consulting group, Star Anise, recently completed the Walker Trail as part of the Hong Kong Legal Walk 2022, taking in breathtaking city views along Hong Kong's harbour from Taikoo Place to the Central Harborfront Wheel on a beautiful Autumn's Day.
Clocking in a total of 9.36 kilometers measured with the help of the Strava App, the team raised over HK$5,000.00 for the campaign by the time they completed their walk on Friday 28 October 2022. The event enabled several new joiners to get to know their colleagues in a more relaxed setting, made even more fun with the Halloween festive decor along the way.
“The walk from Quarry Bay to Central was a fun experience with all my colleagues, with quite a number of photo shoot opportunities in between. It was more special as the walk was for a good cause! I thoroughly enjoyed it!” said Swati Karanjai, researcher in the in-house legal team.
Yuzu Recruitment Manager, Sybil Yang said, "Whilst we have a lot of wellbeing initiatives that we participate in, they are mainly office based, like our weekly yoga sessions. The Legal Walk was a fantastic way to grab some fresh air for the afternoon with my colleagues. As it's a common cause among the legal community, I'm looking forward to sharing our experiences with the wider audience of participants!"
“It was great getting to know some of my colleagues in a different way, and the view the entire time was amazing!”, added researcher Jackson Chan.

About Hong Kong Legal Walk
The months of October and November 2022 saw the inaugural Hong Kong Legal Walk campaign whereby participants (individually, or as a group) could choose to walk along one of three pre-determined routes of varying lengths and difficulties (respectively 7.5km, 12.5km and 25km) in aid of this year's designated charitable causes. Participants were able to share the results of their walk on social media, thereby spreading awareness and gathering wider attention of this movement.
The aim of the movement is to unite people and organisations working in the Hong Kong legal sector to raise a target of HK$1m in aid of four designated domestic charities: the Hong Kong Cancer Fund, Changing Lives Foundation, Association for the Rights of Industrial Accidents Victims, and HELP for Domestic Workers. As at early November 2022, a total of HK$600,000.00 has been raised.
Legal Walk Origins — London
The event has its origins from the London Legal Walk, a similar event organized by The London Legal Support Trust which involves the legal community in the City of London and raised almost £900,000 for various charitable causes in its first campaign. In 2022 the London Legal Walk raised over £718,000 with over 800 teams and 12,000 walkers participating.
The event inspired an experienced business developer in the legal field, Jonathan Bell, to launch the Hong Kong Legal Walk in conjunction with the Hong Kong Bar Association (HKBA) in 2020. However, the ongoing covid restrictions caused ongoing delays until its actual launch in March 2022. Despite this setback, the campaign garnered signatories from over sixty organisations in the legal sector and its ancillary services, with further support from Court of Final Appeal judges, Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers and Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury. Both distinguished judges are former presidents of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and currently sit as Non-Permanent Judges of the Court of Final Appeal.
