What can you do with a law degree? Panel discussion for law students, hosted by Star Anise Legal

Star Anise Legal is pleased to have hosted the event “What Can You Do with a Law Degree? – Your questions answered” at the LinkedIn headquarters on 16 March 2017. 

Our esteemed panelists included:

• Ms. Betty Chung (Former Director of Marketing & Business Development – Shearman & Sterling LLP);
• Mr. Norris Luk (Legal Manager, APAC – Christian Dior);
• Ms. Jennifer Choi (Paralegal – Paul, Weiss); and
• Mr. John Lee (Senior Risk Supervisor – Linklaters & Adjunct Associate Professor of Law – The University of Hong Kong).

The panel discussion was moderated by our very own Senior Manager, Michael Kwan.

With over 100+ law students signed up, the discussion (moderated by Michael Kwan), drew on the panelists’ successes and failures achieved as well as challenges faced in their career journeys so far, leading up to the respective career paths they find themselves in today.

Over the past few years, on an annual basis, an estimated 800 – 1,200 law graduates (across LLB, mixed degrees and postgraduate degrees from both local and foreign universities) have to come to the terms that they may, in the short term, not achieve the goal of being admitted into the PCLL and qualifying as a lawyer. Star Anise Legal hosted such a community event to encourage law graduates to think about the many career alternatives that exist outside of the traditional route.

Michael Kwan was delighted with the turnout of the event, commenting, “It’s great to see so many young people taking their careers seriously so early on. In today’s ultra-competitive jobs market, it’s vital that they are prepared with the necessary tools and information to make informed decisions. The fact that most participants stayed after the event lining up to speak to the panelists individually is a testament to the impact that they have made on the students.”
